What is Tidal 4 Tyne?

 

We are a group of 9 students from Imperial College London excited about engineering and its great challenges. Combining our strengths and weaknesses, we have come together to create Tidal 4 Tyne. We will take over the project of the Tidal Turbines Mounting Structure  which consists of the design of a mounting structure for three tidal turbines in the Tyne’s Estuary, northern England. The project will result in an efficient design producing 63 kW of green electricity, providing  477 MWh a year and energy to more than 100 homes.

The TTMS is a one of a kind design as it will be light, movable, and applicable in any estuary environment. It will be easily recovered for services and maintenance and will lead the way of tidal turbines energy production in the UK and in Europe.
