As our structure will have to be removed for operations purposes every 5 years, a key challenge was to design an efficient, yet retrievable connection that links the columns to the piles.  The connection consists of a sleeve that connects the vertical column and the pile, filling the space between both with concrete and providing vertical as well as rotational resistance. This connection is easy to install and will be bolted to the superstructure before installation and permits easy removal of the structure. It is made of two steel cylinders interlocking each other and closed by a steel plate at the top and at the bottom, at the interface with the ground. To prevent any uplift of the structure, the column above the connection will be secured to the sleeve through the use of high strength M30 bolts fixing the structure to the piles, as well as increasing the weight of the connection by bolting three concrete blocks to each sleeve.
